THE CHARM OF BOISERIE

If we were to describe this décor, of French origin, we could say that they are enveloping. The aesthetic advantage of this detail is to be able to give each room the character of a unique scenography that speaks to the others by affinity. In short, it gives that extra edge, especially on an aesthetic level, that only a strong color or wallpaper can give.

The boiserie is nothing more than a wall covering, usually made of wood, which can be painted or decorated according to the style chosen for your home. This touch of style is perfect when the house is characterized by period fixtures, very high ceilings and walls that require something more refined. In modern homes, however, this effect can be achieved simply by using paint.

To avoid making mistakes, it is advisable to plan and draw the boiserie right from the beginning, down to the smallest detail, taking into account the windows, doors and "accessories" such as sockets and switches in the room. This step allows to have clear both the proportions and the vertical and horizontal alignments. Not to be underestimated, then, the desire to hang paintings or photographs to have a harmonious whole.

A modern boiserie, with its mix of color, three-dimensionality and refinement, turns out to be an excellent combination of style, functionality and elegance.

But how are modern boiseries made? The appearance essentially varies according to the shape chosen and the material used. Although there are different combinations, we can group them into three categories:

Smooth boiserie: made up of individual smooth panels, mainly in natural or treated and colored wood, which give warmth and character to the entire environment.

Slatted boiserie: single slatted panels, that is composed of many slats, varying in size, thickness and depth.

Pantographed boiserie: made up like the previous ones of single panels, but they are decidedly very complex in design and are made of plaster, difficult to place inside modern houses.

Once you have chosen the most suitable paneling for the style of the house, it is time to choose the material. Wood is the best choice as its total flexibility easily adapts to the needs of design creating welcoming, elegant, modern and sophisticated environments.

But also white plaster is an excellent option, as it looks good anywhere and brings a lot of light inside, a fundamental feature for certain environments, such as an attic or a house with a mezzanine.
